San Diego Home and Garden Annual Homes of the Year

In the 2012 February issue of San Diego Home/Garden one of my remodel projects with my firm was awarded one of the Homes of the Year. This magazine runs this competition annually and while our office has won this achievement before, this however is the first time one of my designs was featured as a Home of the Year. We had previously won a Kitchen of the Year for the same home from this publication in June 2011 and we were able to impress the judges again this year gaining another award.

Photography Website

I had purchased the web domain of my name years ago and I though it was time to put it to use. So, I have been preparing a new separate site to showcase my photography and I think it’s finally ready for prime time. Many of the images I have presented here on my blog, but I’ll be making frequent updates with new images.

John Lautner Architecture Tour

In celebration for architect John Lautner’s would be 100^th birthday the MAK Center for Art and Architecture and the John Lautner Foundation hosted a tour of four of Launter’s spectacularly designed homes: Jacobson House (1947), Harpel House (1956), Sheats/Goldstein House (1963,1980+ Remodels) Schwimmer House (1982). Tucked away in the hills of Los Angeles these houses are under the care of amazing homeowners who love and embrace the heritage of their homes and so graciously opened their homes to honor Launter and his work. The homes toured spanned several decades and showcased Launter’s creativity and engineering prowess that even today is astonishing.

Black and White Film Photography

This Canon AE-1 will be my summer muse as I have I enrolled in a Black and White Film Photography class at a nearby university. My experience with working with film is very limited and for the most part it consisted of buying deposable cameras and dropping them off at the 1-hour photo to be developed. A few years back when I ventured into photography and bought a SLR camera the logical path was to go digital since no one I knew shot film. I am extremely excited to go back to where modern photography started and know I am going to learn a great deal and come away from the class being inspired. Developing my photos in the darkroom will be a major component to the class and while it looks like an intimidating process I’m sure I’ll enjoy every minute of it.

I can’t wait for my first photo assignment!
